Episode 16: A burger laden with a piquant wit

It’s all positivity and light in this episode! We torment innocent bystanders in Assassin’s Creed, exhume the many words we murdered during our shameful journalistic past, beat a popular song to a pulp using the blunt weapon of Jam With the Band, and discuss what Zelda games would be like if they replaced certain sections with sinister memorials to people who are actually still alive. Plus: SPACE ARK.

  1. Great episode guys.

I would like to nominate Red Card Soccer for the Space Ark. It’s not an obvious pick, but you can unlock a variety of teams, including dolphins and penguins. Remember them? Lava wasn’t their favourite environment, so it’s only right we remember these friendly species as the football hooligans they truly are. Lamping the referee with Pingu’s brother moments before the whistle blows would cheer up the most hardened Ark resident.

  2. Ah yes, the well-known “games where you play as an animal” genre.
I’d like to nominate Lylat Wars please. Because it’s Lylat Wars. Fox McCloud’s last hurrah before everything went a bit Adventures.

  3. I’d like to nominate Deadly creatures for the wii. It’s both repulsive and extremely satisfying to play as it’s protagonists and it’s world is just a pleasure to explore. The game was criminally overlooked when it originally released, bless it with a second chance and let it live on in the Space Ark!

  4. I nominate the sensational Okami, if only because it has a level which plays out on an Ark from Space that has crashed into a frozen lake, which would be a nice change from all this dratted lava… also, you know, because of it’s wonderful story, great “celestial brush” mechanic and the unique artstyle which makes it look like a traditional Japanese drawing.

  5. Okami is also hugely reminiscent of “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya”, a beautiful and moving animation from Studio Ghibli, which was I believe, cast into the lava by the Animated Film Committee on the Space Ark. They chose a film with a comedy robot…

  6. To get back to podcast talk for a moment, are we going to have more murder in future episodes? I do like a nice bit of murder. And the James Moyles stuff cracked me up – I can safely say that he wasn’t offended!
Also seconding (thirding?) the Okami referral. Beautiful game.

  7. For space ark I’m going to nominate Pa Rappa the Rappa on PS1. you play as a beanie wearing dog! Great little rhythm game with really unique graphical style, the raps are stuck in my head until this day – KICK, PUNCH ITS ALL IN THE MIND!
